Can the resident physically get their medication in their mouth or on their body?  If you answer "NO" then they need delegation.  Contact the case manager or the family.

If you answer "yes" they still may need delegation.  Answer the next question...Do they ever get confused and think their medicine is food?  Do they ever put non-food items in their mouth?  If you answer "YES" they need delegation.

If your resident has a state case manager, contact that person and request nurse delegation.

If your resident is private pay, discuss your concerns with them and their guardian.  Care Plus can help you discuss state guidelines and costs for delegation  with your resident.
